Parenting with “God” Day 13

Day 13 of 280

Remember this is from Parenting by Design from

Today we are talking about “Knowledge V. Wisdom”

First I want to pose a question to those of you reading this. For you is there a difference between knowledge and wisdom? If so what do you feel that difference is? Now there are no right or wrong answers here, no one gonna come knock on your door and say you got that wrong. So be honest with yourself and with God.

As parents when we have children we start thinking about what schools they will attend to receive the best education. We sat out with a list of questions to ask at each school. However unless the school is a “Christian” school do we ever ask what do you teach about “God”? My answer is No! I have never asked that question. I can remember when I was little and in school (grade school) when we lined to for lunch we said a prayer out loud. Speaking of the bible and God was ok to do and we learned that all the knowledge we gained both at school and about life and God was all interrelated. That to have knowledge of one meant we also needed knowledge of the other.

Now a days our children are not taught this lesson. They have to receive this from us at home and at church. I feel that in some ways that the children of this err turn this away due to the fact that they are not taught this in school as we were. We as their parents are not wise with wisdom because this is not what they have learned with their education. Education has taken a front row seat, now please hear me out before you go thinking that I am not concerned about education.

Education is great, I place a high value on that, however there are more things to an education than just math, reading and writing. To me and now this is just to me an education should encompass all accepts of life. Psychical , such as P.E., social, helping to teach children how to get along and interact with others, intellectual, the actual book studies, spiritual, talking about God and what he says is right and wrong and why he feels that way.

If this was done in all schools I personally feel that parents, teachers and the church would all be on the SAME PAGE!!! The old saying it takes a village to rise a child is true, however when the village does not work with each other that village fails. When the village fails the child is left without having learned all the things he or she needs to help them in life outside that village.

Those of us from the old school understand that wisdom cannot be learned any where else except from God. God needs to be placed back in the schools…….In order for our children to have the best possible advantages in their life they need to be taught how life, learning and wisdom all come together in every aspect of their lives.

I asked you a question at the start of this I will give you my answer now. For you is there a difference between knowledge and wisdom?

If so what do you feel that difference is?

Yes there is a for me a difference between the two, knowledge is learned by repeatedly doing something till it becomes a second nature for you and you do it without really thinking about it. Like math for instance, sweeping a floor or making your bed.

Wisdom comes from a different place and for me really has nothing to do with learning the 3 R’s as taught in school. It for me comes from within your heart after you have accepted God into your life. You start to learn a different way to be, to act, to talk. The problem about not teaching about God in school is our children are there 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. They are at church (if we go to church) 1 day a week for only maybe 4 hours that day. Yes they are home with us the parents, however if what we teach at home is not reinforced at school (or church) they will not take it and receive it and learn from it. If they do not learn from it, then they will not grow to know God and how wonderful he is and be able to accept his wisdom that he has waiting for them. This wisdom grows with us, and I feel that without this wisdom there is no amount of knowledge that can help us to succeed in life. The school system feels they same way same about what they teach our children, about that knowledge they want to pass along to them. That is why they ask us the parents to reinforce at home what they have taught our children.

Reference verses

1 Corinthians 1:20-21

20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Have you heard God’s voice today, if not he asked me to tell you that he loves you!!
