Today’s topic is Discipline and Love
It talks about how hard it is to give our children a consequence even when we know they really need it. That the consequence are not joyful to the one receiving them, but that in the end it does set peace within the child’s heart.
It has Proverbs 3:12 as the verse to read but this also brings to mind another verse in Proverbs 13:24
12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

For me both of these verse speak volumes to us as parents. It tells us that he (God) gave discipline to Jesus while he was here on earth as a human as we are. It also tell us that God say’s in order for us to truly love our children we need to correct them and giving consequences is a way to show them that we do love them. It teaches them early on that everyone has a choice in what they do better known as free choice or free will. Through this choice they learn how to understand right from wrong (good choice verses bad choice). As well they learn how to listen, follow directions and that we do make mistakes (bad choices). But that those mistakes (bad choices) can teach us as well. They learn what is expected from them and how they are expected to behave. By this I mean we as parents set the stage for our children for the rest of their lives. Once they start school there will be certain ways that they are expected to behave, things are expected to do and as they grow into adulthood and start to work and live on their own these expectations will grow and change the consequences will change as well. It is our job to prepare them for life and without setting limits and handing out consequences God is telling us that our children will not stand a chance in this world.
I as a single parent of three children CHOOSE to live by Proverbs 13:24 and Proverbs 3:12 ….. What is your choice?
Thanks for stopping by hope to see you again soon…
